OBHIZATRIK Foundation

Ramadan 2025

During the month of Ramadan beyond fasting, it is a time for increased devotion, prayer, and acts of kindness. Zakat or charity and Sadaqah or voluntary charity, hold particular significance as believers are encouraged to extend generosity to those in need. This philanthropic practice serves not only as a means of aiding the less fortunate but also as a way to purify one’s soul and foster a sense of community. You can engage in various charitable acts like donating to repay someone’s loan, creating livelihood, helping with someone’s treatment cost, helping someone financially to become a hafiz, providing meals for someone, buying Ramadan groceries for an underprivileged family, or arranging a group of underprivileged people’s iftar in our community kitchen Appayon embracing the spirit of compassion and solidarity during this sacred month with the help of Obhizatrik Foundation.

The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. [Qur’an 2:261]

The Prophet (PBUH) explained this in a hadith narrated by Ka’b bin Ujrah, β€œSalat is clear proof, and Sawm (fasting) is an impregnable shield, and Sadaqah (charity) extinguishes sins just as water extinguishes fire.” [Jami’ at-Tirmidhi].

How much is Zakat?
Zakat is levied at 2.5% of all Zakat-able assets after deducting specific liabilities for the year. The annual payment of Zakat is done according to the lunar calendar. Items like jewellery and gold are Zakat-able items and their worth should be factored in when calculating totals.Β
Who can receive zakat?

Chapter nine, verse 60 of the Qur’an lays out the eight categories that are permissible as Zakat recipients. They include:

Β  Zakat in the Quran:

[2:215]Β β€œThey ask you about giving: say, β€œThe charity you give shall go to the parents, the relatives, the orphans, the poor, and the traveling alien.” Any good you do, God is fully aware thereof.”

[9:60]Β Charities(Sadaqaat) shall go to the poor, the needy, the workers who collect them, the new converts, to free the slaves, to those burdened by sudden expenses, in the cause of Allah, and to the traveling alien. Such is GOD’s commandment. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

[2:3]Β who believe in the unseen, observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), and from our provisions to them, they give to charity.

[2:43]Β You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and bow down with those who bow down.

[2:83]Β We made a covenant with the Children of Israel: β€œYou shall not worship except GOD. You shall honor your parents and regard the relatives, the orphans, and the poor. You shall treat the people amicably. You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat).” But you turned away, except a few of you, and you became averse.

[2:110]Β You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat). Any good you send forth on behalf of your souls, you will find it at Allah. Allah is seer of everything you do.
