The devastating floods that hit Bangladesh from August 2024 have left a significant portion of the country grappling with multiple challenges. Heavy floods caused overflow, submerging vast areas, damaging homes, and displacing lakhs of families. Affected districts like Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, Kurigram, Khagrachari, Fatikchari, Lakshmipur, Moulvibazar and many more saw entire communities flooded, with roads submerged, crops destroyed, and people in desperate need of food, clean water, and medical assistance.
In response to the disaster, Obhizatrik stepped in with immediate rescue process of trapped people in their homes, relief efforts, food bags, cooked food and medical help to support the affected people. The organization conducted food bag distribution programs across the severely impacted areas, ensuring that families received essential items to help them survive during the crisis. Over these months, Obhizatrik distributed relief food bags in Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, Kurigram, Khagrachari, Fatikchari, Lakshmipur, and Moulvibazar.
The food bags distributed by the foundation contained basic necessities such as rice, lentils, khichuri mix, oil, puffed rice, onion, garlic, noodles and other non-perishable items to ensure that families would have enough to sustain themselves. These efforts reached thousands of households, providing much-needed relief during a time when local markets were inaccessible and livelihoods were destroyed by the floods.
In addition to providing food relief, Obhizatrik also set up medical camps in the flood-affected areas to address the growing health concerns. Floodwaters not only displaced families but also created an environment conducive to the spread of diseases such as waterborne infections and illnesses such as cough, fever, diarrhea and cold. The medical camps were set up to provide first aid, basic healthcare and distribute medicines to prevent and treat these diseases.
In this crucial and emergency time many people came forward to help the affected people through Obhizatrik. Also, many corporate partners like IDLC, IPDC, HUAWEI, DARAZ, MUSLIM CHARITY, ZXY INTERNATIONAL, URMI GROUP, RENATA PHARMACEUTICALS and SCHOLASTICA stepped up and helped us in rescue mission, medical camps, food bag distribution, post flood rehabilation for affected people. Their support has been a great deal in providing immediate support and hope to those who needed it most during this difficult time.
Doctors and healthcare volunteers, in partnership with Obhizatrik, worked tirelessly to assist those in need, offering medical consultations, vaccinations, and distributing essential items like saline, water purification tablets, and sanitary supplies. The camps played a crucial role in controlling the spread of illnesses and ensuring the well-being of the affected population.
The relief efforts are part of a larger ongoing mission to support and rehabilitate flood-affected communities in Bangladesh. Obhizatrik remained committed to rebuilding lives by providing both immediate support and providing essential elements. As the floodwaters recede, the Obhizatrik continues to assess the needs of affected areas and provide critical resources. The work carried out by Obhizatrik stands as a testament to the power of collective action and community resilience in the face of natural disasters.
