In June-July, OBHIZATRIK embarked on an ambitious and inspiring journey “Project Green” to make our community greener and healthier funded by ZXY International. With the collective effort and enthusiasm of our dedicated team, volunteers and supporters, we successfully planted over 5,000 trees across various locations In Dhaka, making a significant impact on our environment. Also, we distributed trees among many people, encouraging them to plant their trees and contribute to this noble cause.
This year Bangladesh faced the longest heatwave in the last 76 years, with temperatures unceasingly hovering around 40 degrees Celsius. The severe heatwave in Bangladesh has forced school closures, disrupted agriculture and heightened the risk of heat stroke and other health complications.
Over time we realized the necessity of trees and what a small plan can do after 5-10 years. Everybody from their initiative planted trees to reduce the upcoming year’s heatwave. Trees can help mitigate heat waves by cooling cities. Rapid, unplanned growth as migrants flocked to the city, sometimes to escape the effects of climate change along the coast and rivers, trees being cut down to make space for concrete buildings and other development. The tree plantation month was designed to raise awareness about the importance of trees in our ecosystem and to promote environmental sustainability. We strategically planned the planting activities to cover diverse areas, ensuring that the benefits of our efforts would reach different parts of the community.
Through “Project Green”, we planted trees like Debdaru, Mhegoni, Shonalu, Krishnochura, Neem, Kathbadam, Peyara, Lebu, etc more than 50 types of trees. We planted on South Pallabi, Pallabi Phase 2, Eastern Housing Society, Savar, Desh Polytechnic College, SOS Children’s Village, etc. They not only helped us plant trees but also took responsibility to take care of this in further time. Each tree planted signifies a step in mitigating climate impacts, enhancing air quality, and nurturing community spirit. Many local community members joined us as volunteers on this journey. The 5,000 trees we planted will grow to provide numerous benefits, including cleaner air, reduced carbon footprint, enhanced biodiversity, and improved mental well-being for residents. The trees distributed for home planting will continue to remind us of our collective effort and the positive impact we can make when we work together.
The success of our “Project Green” month is just the beginning. We invite everyone to stay engaged and join us in our ongoing efforts to protect and enhance our environment. Whether it’s through volunteering, donating or simply spreading the word, every action counts. Together, we can create a lasting legacy of green spaces and a healthier planet for future generations.
